October Project In Focus

Countrylife Part 1: The Courtyard - Lin Hopper Designs
This property has one of my favourite landscapes - practical, functional and good-looking all year round. It has something for everyone. From the woodland rides to the sports arenas, to the vegetable gardens and fishing pool (which also irrigates the whole site). It's not a fussy garden by any stretch of the imagination and this allows the children and their friends to 'express' themselves in complete freedom without fear of damage. View Project

September Project In Focus

Lovely Lincolnshire - Dairmuid Gavin Designs
What a scheme! It was a great opportunity to work alongside one of the U.K's leading Designers renowned for his unconventional approach to Garden Architecture and he certainly didn't disappoint.
It began in January 2006 and basically required us to turn a field into a top notch wedding venue by July. It involved Cornfields, Elephants and deadly Planting need I say any more...
The cornfields came and went and the garden is establishing beautifully. This year we planted the woodland walk with cherries, Birch, Mulberry & Maple to compliment the newly constructed Natural Swimming Pool. View Project

August Project In Focus

Arts & Crafts Restoration - SHS Gardens
We were brought in to advise upon appropriate replanting of this voysey inspired property. In the true arts and crafts tradition function and quality of material won out but not without adding flourishes of real individuality by planting a summer scheme of cosmos, canna and calla lilies, dahlias and geraniums. These revitalised borders also benefited from an automated irrigation system that we installed. View Project

July Project In Focus

Simplicity Itself - SHS Gardens
I has been rumoured that SHS are only interested in doing big 'showpiece' gardens something which is simply not true. As long as our clients believe in our standards of horticultural care, execution and 'built to last ethos' we have no hesitation in working on any given situation. This project is a case in mind. Our clients, based in Whickham had recently extended their house to accommodate for the growing family and wanted a simple, uncluttered , child friendly play space where parents and friends could watch in comfort. So we built a large deck coming straight from the dining room and onto the lawn - eradicating all the previous trip hazards. We created a lavender surrounded seating area for mums and dads with winter hedges of Osmanthus and Escallonia to provide Winter colour... View Project

May Project In Focus

A Gentle Touch - Keith Pullan
It was an absolute pleasure to work with SGD Member Keith for the very first time on this lovely project near Durham. The garden was completely revised with the installation of new seating areas and planting. The end product was particularly well received and we have subsequently been asked by Keith to install another one of his designs down in North Yorkshire later in the year. View Project

April Project In Focus

Pretty In Pink - Lin Hopper Designs
Lin was asked to work her modern magic upon this most traditional of Victorian terraces in Newcastle. Throughout the year the garden blooms in varying shades of pink and white that perfectly soften the harder hues of the blue paving and rusted metal trellises. View Project

March Project In Focus

Making A Splash - SHS Commercial
As part of our Landscaping package for the new offices of this Submarine Making Company, we were asked to install a riverside pontoon that could be used by staff as an outdoor recreation space. The hardwood and glass structure was designed to withstand the worst conditions the Tyne could throw at it and yet not appear bulky or cumbersome... View Project

February In Focus

Beautifully Lit - Colin Jubb (Reid Jubb Brown Landscape Architects)
This small space suddenly became so much bigger via a clever ventilation system that allowed the paving to continue from the kitchen into the garden. The attention to detail was so fine, we even went to Norway to locate special green anthracite that matched the interior perfectly. Add to that soothing lighting and water - you have the perfect year round entertaining area. View Project

10th August 2006 - The Ultimate Indulgence
A prestigious barn conversion in Northumberland is about to receive the SHS treatment. This gorgeous property will soon be complemented by a fabulous garden that features reclaimed stone paths and terraces, hard wood decking, and, the ultimate indulgence, and outdoor hot tub.

10th June 2006
Despite such a relatively short life, the business is already blossoming. Already this year we are working for a number of North East architects on their own properties as well as their private clients. We are already taking orders for the New Year so book for a consultation as early as you possibly can.

6th June 2006
We are delighted to have been asked by one of our existing customers to build a natural swimming pool for them in association with Anglo Aquarium, we can't wait to see the end product as this is the first (certainly in the North East) of what, we hope, will be many.

1st June 2006
In light of our success and rapid expansion we are actively seeking to work with or employ people, like ourselves, who are craftsman and truly care about gardens.
If you know you have the talent and can prove it send your details and some photographs of your work via our contact page.
